Identify the fan and the symptom
Describe whether the fan does not run, a light behaves differently or the unit moves unexpectedly. Provide safely available product information. Keep clear of an unstable fixture and do not climb up to inspect its mounting or open the enclosure.
Support and controls affect installation
A fan places different demands on its mounting than a light fixture. Ask the electrician to assess support, ceiling height, clearances and the intended controls. A replacement fan is not necessarily a direct fit for the existing box or control arrangement.
Repair and replacement have different boundaries
Motor, remote, receiver, lighting and circuit problems can require different work. Ask what assessment is offered and whether product parts are available. An electrical business may handle installation or supply issues while a manufacturer handles a product-specific warranty.
Make ceiling access visible
Tell the business about stairwells, vaulted ceilings, obstacles and shared-building restrictions. Confirm safe access arrangements and who provides equipment. Customer furniture, paint and finish repairs may be excluded from the installation scope.
Confirm product responsibility
Before ordering a fan, ask about accepted customer-supplied equipment, required accessories, mounting suitability and controls. Price and timing depend on access, support changes, equipment and additional wiring. Request confirmation of testing and cleanup included in the proposal.
Check address and project requirements
A Fort Myers-area postal name does not establish jurisdiction or availability. Confirm the complete address and whether local approval is needed for the proposed electrical work. Use Florida electrical licensing resources to verify the person or business responsible.
Questions before arranging work
Can every ceiling light be replaced with a fan?
The support, clearances, controls and wiring need assessment. Do not assume an existing light mounting is suitable.
Does a remote-control fault require a new fan?
Ask about product compatibility and assessment first. Availability of parts and warranty support can affect repair options.
Plan the next conversation
Use How to compare electrical repair and installation quotes and the assessment planner. Check locality and address preparation.
